Under Armor's Marketing Goldmine

The Under Armor marketing guys took a page right out of Nike’s playbook last night. There hasn’t been this much conversation about uniforms since Oregon first started wearing their crazy ones.

Love them or hate them, last nights uniforms were different, and the talk of the NATION. They blew up on twitter. Everyone commented, college football players, sports writers, Lebron James, and more.

People wondered why they went with the strangest combination, but its all about marketing. Great job Maryland and Under Armor.

In all seriousness, they have some combinations that don’t look crazy at all.

I wish that UVA was getting something crazy and different from Under Armor or Nike.
And remember that Nike gets full licensing rights to NFL Jerseys starting in April of 2012. Its going to be crazy to see what those designers and the teams come up with.

So, do you love them or hate them?

  1. I think they are interesting. I haven't watched a Maryland game yet so if they don't distract me from the play and then I can accept them!

  2. Are they just really different from what they had or what other teams have (sorry- I'm a Canadian who doesn't "get" the college football thing)? I don't think they're that crazy...definitely cool though- I like them.
They shoes are pretty wild- which I think is awesome.

As for Nike- I kind of that until Under Armor got creative with these uniforms (clearly they're the most creative in the college football/any football circuit) Nike had no reason to do anything fun. Now they might HAVE to do something to get people talking as much as Under Armor did.
